Holistic Options For Teething

Someone might look at all my blog posts and wonder: “this girl is all over the map… what’s her niche exactly?”

Although I’m a hairstylist sharing tips for better haircare, I also have a passion for non-toxic alternatives for healthy living and overall wellness. I’m a mama to (almost) two girls, and my all-natural journey began with my first pregnancy in 2019.

With mamahood came a random intuitive nudge to be more aware of products I use, the toxicity of certain ingredients that wreak havoc on our bodies, and what I’d be exposing my children to. After enduring quite a few health issues myself, this became very important to me.

My product switches have been slow, and I’m certainly still learning. But, my plan is to share what I learn in order to help more families become aware and decide for themselves which choices are the best.

When it came to my first daughter teething, I knew I needed to look for holistic alternatives to help her through the pain. After several nights of screaming and dosing Tylenol that didn’t seem to be helping, and she wouldn’t take a teething ring (probably because it was too cold on her tiny hands), I searched online for other methods I may have not heard about. One thing I came across was the Nippii Freezable Pacifier.

The Nippii pacifier was a game-changer for us!

I always felt a bit of guilt for resorting to Tylenol (no judgement from me if you use it, and please don’t judge for resorting to it), and always wanted it to be my last option when it felt like nothing else worked.

I ordered mine here, and it came the next day. I washed it immediately, and opened the lid to fill it with water and put it in the freezer.

As soon as a bad spell happened for my girl and the Nippii was frozen, I eagerly grabbed it and: SHE LOVED IT! It was a big hit, but sadly I felt the ice inside never lasted long enough. Thankfully, I was able to find the Nippii’s own ice cube tray refill, a tray with SIX little replacement Nippii-shaped pacifier ice cubes. Seriously, how cool. It helped me (and my sweet gal) take on those irritable moments.

Other holistic, all-natural, non-toxic alternatives that I use in my mama-arsenal include:

1) An authentic Baltic Amber necklace (Amber is a natural stone from the Earth, known to reduce inflammation. Amber can also be used to help with allergy symptoms! Please remove necklaces when sleeping due to the obvious choking hazard)

2) Young Living’s Copaiba Essential Oil (I trust Young Living more than any other brand because of their Seed To Seal promise and quality assurance—send me an email if you’d like to order a bottle through me or have any questions—Copaiba is an anti-inflammatory blend known to assist with aches and pains. It is safe to put a drop directly on baby’s gums, and/or on the outer cheek.)

3) Silicone Haakaa 360 baby toothbrush: the squishy-ness and sensation of the toothbrush is the perfect thing for baby to bite on. My daughter loved her silicone toothbrush before we even started training her to brush all these teeth that were coming in! She actually preferred this to chew on versus the Sophie or any kind of other teething-specific toy.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these natural teething methods from my family (pictured above—our daughter was the very loud flower girl at a friend’s wedding; therefore, she was granted some screen time 😂).

If you have any questions or any other natural teething suggestions, I’d love to hear from you on my Contact page.

Sending love and light (and happy teething vibes),

Auj xo
